Our Wedding Story

By now we were pretty accustomed to waking up early, but it was still damn early when the alarm went off. We had to catch an early flight to DFW and then continue on to Puerto Vallerta on the west side of Mexico. We were getting ready and all of a sudden...my passport was not where it should be. And I searched all over my suitcase and in all pockets and everywhere and it would not turn up. I quickly called up my mom to look in the room I stayed in but she could not find it anywhere. It was gone. Even if she could find it, she could not have driven to CLE in time, and we had to make the flights and check into the hotel that day or we would lose all the money we paid up front. I felt terrible. I felt like I had let Alison down and she would never forgive me, but she was so helpful and understanding. We decided to continue on to DFW and figure things out from there.

We got to DFW and I called the AA Vacations number. There was nothing to do, I couldn't get into Mexico and the hotel money was gone. I could take a penalty and exchange the tickets for a domestic location, so we did some searching and decided to go to San Juan, Puerto Rico. San Juan was a 5 hour flight so we definately took the long way there, but VLC for the iPad kept us entertained. It was dark by the time we got there. We hopped into a taxi which then took us past the hotel into who knows whereville before I finally got him to realize we were staying at a hotel right next to the airport. Gripping onto the seats for dear life, he swerved through traffic and eventually got us there. We had been travelling all day and so we just found a restaurant in the hotel that night and had a burger and sandwiches.

I have to say I liked Puerto Rico a lot better than Cancun. My biggest reason for disliking Cancun was the in-your-face pushy salespeople everywhere. There wasn't any of that in San Juan. In fact, it was hard even to get the waitress back to your table most of the time. We spent the first day relaxing and lounging around the pool. We walked on the beach. I managed to not get sunburned somehow. It was about 85 degrees. Not too hot and the pool was a good temperature, unlike Cancun again.

The next day we went into the Old City of San juan, which is the touristy spot inside the old fort walls. We toured the fort walls and while it was cool and gave a great view of the sea, it was a lot of empty rooms. We did a lot of walking, got some ice cream and tried the local food which is a plaintain smashed and filled with whatever meat you want in it, called a mofongo. I didn't care much for the plaintain but they have so many of them there they pretty much have to do something with them.
On the last day we went to the rainforest and took a guided tour. It was very pretty and I enjoyed laughing as Alison shrieked at seeing a huge lizard slowly walk in front of us. We spent the rest of the day on the beach and had dinner at the beachfront restaurant. We didn't have a whole lot of honeymoon time because I was supposed to work, but I thought it was the perfect length. We enjoyed it a lot and I didn't ruin anything after all. My passport was eventually found, having fallen out in my brother's car on the way to the wedding.
